Former U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley won his first competitive game in charge of Egypt as the Pharaohs beat Mozambique, 2-0, Friday night in theiropening game of 2014 World Cup qualifying.
The game was Egypt’s first home game in eight months and was played without fans at a military stadium on the Mediterranean coast nearAlexandria. The move was made by the interior ministry after more than 70 people died at a league game Feb. 1.
Mahmoud Fathallah opened the scoringin the 54th minute, and Egypt added to its lead nine minutes later when Mohamed Zidan‘s volley rebounded off the post and deflected in off the Mozambiquegoalkeeper.
Friday marked the opening day of the semifinal group stage of World Cup 2014 qualifying in the African zone.
