One of the top forward tandems in MLS got back onto the field for the first time in nearly a year as Colorado beat Portland, 3-0, on Saturday.
Conor Casey andOmar Cummings hadn’t been on the field together since July 16, 2011, and Casey celebrated the occasion with his first goal of the season. A ruptured Achilles’ in that game last yearsidelined Casey and prompted a run of injuries for both players that kept them apart.
Cummings nearly sat out the Timbers’ game with a tight left quad that flared up on Friday but recoveredin time to get the start. He and Casey came off a minute apart late in the match with the Rapids up, 2-0.
“Omar is still carrying a little bit of pain,” said Coach OscarPareja. “You can tell sometimes he doesn’t feel 100 percent comfortable. But he came in and did the job. And same thing with Conor.”
