[DUKE-NORTH CAROLINA] No. 7 North Carolina spoiled Senior Night at Duke with a 2-0 win over the No. 6 Blue Devils. Meg Morrisand Kealia Ohai scored goals early in each half for Carolina, which dominated the game before a noisy and wet crowd of 2,134 fans in Durham, where theTar Heels are now 13-0-0 all-time.
“I will take the blame on this myself,” said Duke coach Robbie Church. “I did not inspire myteam. I thought Carolina was much more inspired today. They played harder and I thought the best team won today’s game. I did not motivate our whole group. I thought a lot of our kids playedhard and our seniors played extremely hard too.”
Carolina went ahead on a sensational goal by Morris off an assist from freshman midfielder KatieBowen in the 10th minute
The Tar Heels dominated the reminder of the first half, outshooting the Blue Devils, 9-1, but were unable to get a second goal beforeintermission.
It took less than eight minutes into the second half, however, for the Tar Heels to add a second goal when freshman Summer Green delivered a perfect cross to the onrushing Ohai, who took the pass in stride and scored her fourth goal of the season since returning from the Under-20 Women’s World Cup, where she had thewinning goal in the final for the USA.
