Chivas de Guadalajara lost young star Javier Hernandez to Manchester United in the offseason, but it hasn’t missed a beat. Erick Torres, who only turned 18 in January, scored his sixth goal of the season to lead Chivas to a 3-0 win over Club America in Mexico’s Superclasico.
Torres is nicknamedEl Cubo (“The Cube”), and his success has touched off “Cubomania” in Guadalajara. Last season, he was playing for Guadalajara’s under-17 team. His skill with both feet and his head has drawncomparisons to “Chicharito.”
Marco De la Mora came off the bench to score twice late in the second half and clinch the win, Chivas’ third in arow.
