The Netherlands has appointed Dick Advocaat as head coach for a third time. Advocaat, who will be assisted by Ruud Gullit, replaces Danny Blind,who lost his job after a 2-0 loss to Bulgaria left the Netherlands fourth in its World Cup qualifying group. The Dutch also failed to qualify for the 2016 European Championship.
Advocaatannounced in March he would be leaving Turkish club Fenerbahce at the end of this season. In his previous stints, Advocaat led the Netherlands to the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals and the semifinals ofEuro 2004.
