In a meeting with fans on Wednesday, Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis apologized for the team’s recent performances, in particular its most recent loss on penalties to Bradford Cityof League Two in the Capital One Cup quarterfinal, a result which he said had left the American “upset and angry.” Gazidis said the result was “not good enough” despite coachArsene Wenger’s claim on Tuesday that the players “gave everything.” The meeting with fans had been arranged prior to the shock defeat at Bradford.
“I thinkI am frankly tired of getting up here and delivering the same message,” Gazidis said. “Tuesday night was not good enough and it made us all upset and angry. I would like to apologize to all of you,especially the fans who traveled up there. It was unbelievable support as ever and you deserved better…We will get this right.”
In spite of his strong words, Gazidis gave noindication that Wenger’s position is under threat. The Frenchman still has 18 months left on his contract with Arsenal.
