Jaro Zawislan, a prominent coach for many years in the Syracuse area, died on Jan. 9.
Zawislan, the 1993 ACC Tournament MVP at Clemson, was most recently the women’s head coach at Le Moyne College, a position he departed in November.
Zawislan, who left Poland for Canada just before his 17th birthday to be reunited with his parents living in the United States, served as the Cornell men’s head coach for seven seasons, leading the Big Red to the Ivy League championship in 2012. He previously had assistant coaching stints at Syracuse, Stanford and Creighton.
Zawislan was also Syracuse FC’s president and technical director. Syracuse FC has teams in the NPSL and UPSL.
