Jonathan Bornstein has joined the staff of the NCAA Division I women’s champion Florida State as an assistant under head coach Brian Pensky.

Bornstein was named the 2006 MLS Rookie of the Year with Chivas USA after being taken in the fourth round of the MLS SuperDraft out of UCLA.

He played nine seasons in MLS, five with Chivas USA and four with the Chicago Fire toward the end of his career, eight seasons in Liga MX, winning a league title with Tigres in 2011, and one season each in Israel (Maccabi Netanya) and in Honduras (CDS Vida).

What They’re Saying. “First and foremost, he is an extremely humble person with a tremendous work ethic,” Pensky said. “Jonny had to fight and scratch and claw for everything that he achieved in his extremely successful playing career as nothing was ever handed to him. As the father of two young girls, Jonny couldn’t be more excited to work with our phenomenal group of women. We are confident that his breadth of experiences along with his charismatic personality, will help to continue to develop our players at a high very level.”
