[UNDER-20 WORLD CUP] Three Americans — Richard Sanchez (FC Dallas), Uvaldo Luna(Tigres) and Julio Morales (Chivas USA) — were named to Sergio Almaguer‘s squad that will represent Mexico at theUnder-20 World Cup in Turkey.
All 11 starters from the team that beat the USA, 3-1, in overtime in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship final were picked for the Under-20 World Cup.
Sanchez and Luna started on that team, while Morales, who joined Chivas USA this season, was a late addition to the team.

Defenders: AntonioBriseno (Atlas), Francisco Flores (Cruz Azul), Jose Javier Abella (Santos), Bernardo Hernandez (Monterrey), Hedgardo Marin (Guadalajara), Abel Fuentes (Guadalajara), Jose Carlos Van Rankin (Pumas)

It just puzzles and amazes me how these players get by our scouts and are found by other countries because they have fathers or mothers that were born in other countries. I’m not just talking about Mexican American players here, this country is so rich in cultures from all over the globe and yet players keep slipping though our fingers. I know it’s the same old song and dance and I’m just venting my frustration because we all know where our problems are.
Edgar, expect for that number to grow. Mexico and Central America love USA born players. They are as technical because they inherit the passion but are physically stronger and bigger.
Gentlemen, have you looked at our under 20 players on Tab Ramos’ team? The majority have Hispanic names. There is a limited number of players that can be named to the team…of course Mexico and other countries will pick up the extras that we couldn’t include.
Ginger, with all due respect, it seems Mexico is picking up more than USA extras. Other countries?? Maybe but mainly Center America. Hence, El Salvador’s first U20 WC. But Mexico, hell no. Rossi??
Incredible that we lose talent. Who cares where their parents were born. These kids are AMERICAN, regardless of color or race…. We just should not lose them. Do we lose Basketball or baseball players? NO! We don’t.Who cares if the entire US National team becomes of Hispanic heritage, if someone has a problem just look at the US Basketball team. 99% of the same heritage. At the end it doesn’t matter, they are Americans and they represent us well. Lets just keep the best and let the best play.
