Another wild day of action in the U.S. Open Cup’s round of 32 ended late Wednesday night when the Seattle Sounders defeated Louisville City in a shootout after they blew a 2-0 lead in the second half.

• Starfire hero: Goalkeeper Andrew Thomas, who made three saves before converting the final spot kick in the eighth round for a 5-4 shootout win after the match ended 2-2.

Four other games on Wednesday went to overtime. They included the match between the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Birmingham Legion the Rowdies won 6-4 in overtime after blowing a 4-0 lead with eight minutes left in regulation.

MD Myers completed a hat trick in the 121st minute to give Charleston Battery a 3-2 win over South Georgia Tormenta FC. Mexican star Alan Pulido scored in the 120th minute to give Sporting KC a 2-1 win over another USL League One upstart, Union Omaha.
