Kia Rankin‘s goal in the 67th minute gave N.C. State a 1-0 win over North Carolina in the ACC opener for both teams. The loss to the Wolfpack was only the second in history for the Tar Heelsagainst N.C. State. UNC leads the series with a 44-2-2 record.
UNC saw its 14-game winning streak. NC State’s only other win in the series came in the 2002 ACC opener when theWolfpack won 2-1 in Cary, N.C.
On the game’s lone goal, midfielder Paige Griffiths won a 50-50 ball and passed ahead Rankin, who split two Tar Heel defenders and finished tothe lower left corner from 10 yards out past UNC goalkeeper Lindsey Harris.
