EAST. No. 8 PennState followed up on its 3-1 win over No. 7 Virginia with a 5-0 win over St. John’s. The Nittany Lions got two early goals from senior Christine Nairn, as wellas goals from Maddy Evans and Emily Hurd to open up a 4-0 advantage after 23 minutes.  Costa Rica freshman Raquel Rodriquez added her first goal in the 52nd minute.

— Senior Alyscha Mottershead scored with 21 secondsremaining in the first overtime to complete Syracuse’s comeback in a 3-2 win at Colgate. The Orange trailed 2-0 in the second half before scoring three unanswered goals to win its season opener forthe first time since 2008.

— Canadian Olympian Jonelle Filigno scored in the 101st minute to lead Rutgers to a 1-0 win over Ohio State. The winwas the second in two games for the Scarlet Knights, while the Buckeyes fell to 0-2-0.

LauraWeinberg and Katie Trees both added two goals apiece for Duke, which finished with a 32-1 edge in shots. “Today we wanted to play two good halves,” BuleDevils coach Robbie Church said. “I thought we moved the ball well.”

  1. Why the NCAA continues to support the hype around ranking makes absolutely no sense! Really, what value can you get out of this headline “No. 1 Duke improved to 2-0-0 with an 8-0 win over Elon.” Elon looks like they have only a “club” womens team. Quit wasting effort on the ranking, it is meaningless.
