The news from the the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen was not good for German fans on Tuesday. Octopus Paul, who has been perfect with his picks in Germany’s first five games, has selected Spain tobeat Germany in Wednesday’s semifinal in Durban.
The octopus has made his selections by eating a mussel from one of two containers. Boxes adorned with German and Spanish flags werelowered into his tank, where he selected the food from the Spanish container. He previously picked all four German wins — and even its loss to Serbia.
German fans can take some smallconsolation in the fact that Paul doesn’t have a good record of Germany-Spain predictions. He picked Germany over Spain in the Euro 2008 final. Spain won, 2-0.
