Clemson defender Pape Mar Boye has left after his freshman season to sign with the USL Championship’s Phoenix Rising.

Boye, 20, was named the 2023 College Cup Defensive MVP in helping the Tigers to their fourth NCAA Championship. He hails from Senegal and came to Clemson via the Montverde Academy program.

He was expected to have been one of the top picks in the MLS SuperDraft if he had signed a Generation adidas contract.

  1. In the USL he is not subject to draft and can choose his club. This is important so he and his advisors optimize his next development phase. USL is maturing and now offering stable platform for developing young players.
