Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers on Monday revealed that the club has offered captain Steven Gerrard a new contract, but the 34-year-old must decide if he wants to accept it or not.Reports across Britain claimed that Gerrard could seek a move away from Liverpool this summer after he was left on the bench for the 1-0 win at home to Stoke City on Saturday. In October, the formerEngland international confirmed that he would not be retiring at the end of the season and could seek a move elsewhere unless Liverpool offered him a new deal.
Well, that deal has now arrivedand Gerrard, who has spent his entire 16-year career with Liverpool, must decide whether or not to sign, Rodgers said. “Firstly in terms of the club the latest is that Steven Gerrard and hisrepresentatives have been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that’s where it’s at,” Rodgers said ahead of the Reds’ trip to last-place Leicester City. “It certainly won’t bemoney,” the Northern Irishman said regarding the factors in Gerrard’s decision. “I’ve spoken to him enough times at length and that won’t be the case. Between now and the end of the season hedeserves the opportunity to think.”
