[MICHIGAN-WISCONSIN: Women] Florida State transfer Ani Sarkisianscored with one second left in regulation to give Michigan a 2-1 win over Big Ten rival Wisconsin, handing the No. 8 Badgers their first loss after seven wins.
With 20 seconds lefton the clock, Michigan was awarded a free kick on the left side from about 25 yards out. The free kick was taken by freshman Taylor Timko and headed by twoWisconsin players before Bailey Haydock played a ball from the far side back across the face of the goal to Sarkisian, who flicked it inside the near post forher second goal of the game.
For the third straight game, Sarkisian scored within the first 12 minutes, putting the Wolverines up 1-0 in the ninth minute.
In the 36thminute, Badger junior Kinley McNicoll scored from the penalty spot to even the score.
“I told the team one game doesn’t define a season,” UW coachPaula Wilkins said. “How we respond to this will be one of the most important things of our season. We have to take things away from this that we weren’tprepared for today. Michigan did a great job and we didn’t lock up at the end there. It’s going to be a very good wake-up call for us if we can learn from this. I feel that there’s always something wecan pull out from a loss. We’ll refocus, correct our mistakes and move forward.”
