World Cup winner and Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has apologized after a video appeared of him singing a fan song that refers to Borussia Dortmund as “sons ofwhores.” The video was apparently filmed in a Munich bar a couple days after he lifted the World Cup with German and started going viral last weekend.

The 29-year-old filmed an apologyvideo in which he said: “I’m speaking to you from my holiday because I’ve heard that a video has been released on the internet. I’d like to apologize to the fans, members and players of BorussiaDortmund. I don’t want to sugarcoat anything. It’s a famous fan chant, but I didn’t mean to offend anyone with the use of the expletive.”

Dortmund player KevinGrosskreutz, a Germany teammate, accepted the apology: “What you did wasn’t cool, but I understand your explanation and I won’t ever forget how much you’ve done for me.”

BorussiaDortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “We won’t make a fuss. We consider Schweinsteiger a decent chap to be honest.”
