USYNT: Eight NWSL players on U-20 Women’s World Cup squad
Eight pros and 13 collegians comprise Coach Vicky Jepson’s U.S. team for the 2026 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland (Sept. 5-27). The USA last won the biennial championship in 2012. Three players are in their third NWSL seasons: Kennedy Fuller, Ainsley McCammon and Emeri Adames.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Cameroon wins first African title
Cameroon won its first ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title by crushing Malawi 3-0 in Rabat on Sunday. It will be one of the teams to watch at
the World Cup next summer. Its lineup features six players 21 years old or younger. Among them is Golden Ball winner Monique Ngock (bound for the Washington Spirit).
NWSL: Japanese trio is Utah royalty
iyabi Moriya, Narumi Miura and Mina Tanaka made NWSL history as three Japanese players scored in the same match for the first time, leading the Utah Royals to a 3-2 victory against Bay FC. The Royals set a new team record for wins in a season with 11. Also: Olivia Moultrie (ACL) has been placed on Portland’s SEI list.

Malawi has not only qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time, it will play in the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday in Rabat. Its stars are sisters Temwa Chawinga and Tabitha Chawinga. The big news in Africa: Nigeria’s perfect World Cup participation record is over.
COLLEGE SOCCER: Expanded women’s season kicks off
The 2026 NCAA Division I women’s season begins on Wednesday. The season has been expanded by two weeks, starting one week earlier and ending a week later with the Women’s College Cup being held in conjunction with the Men’s College Cup. As usual, ACC teams top the list of contending teams.
