[BRAZIL 2014] Until Tuesday, Anara Atanes was just another WAG, a Victoria’s Secret model known as the girlfriend ofManchester City’s French star, Samir Nasri. That was before she took to Twitter for a foul-mouthed attack on France and its national team coach, Didier Deschamps.

Before Deschamps named his team on French television — a segment on the evening news that drew 8 million viewers — Nasri said he didnot expect to be named to the Bleus’ 23-player squad even though he helped City win the 2014 EPL title. Nasri did not sound too disappointed, saying he’d watch the World Cup, like most others, ontelevision.

But Atanes would not take Nasri’s exclusion without letting everyone know what she thought of France and Deschamps. “F*** France and f*** Deschamps! What a s*** manager!” washer response on Twitter. Followed by a second Tweet: “Incase u didn’t read  my tweet properly…I’ll repeat myself…f*** France! And f*** Deschamps!”

Nasri was not part of the 2010 French World Cup that brought shame on a nation when the players boycottedpractice in a disagreement with the French federation’s decision to kick Nicolas Anelka off the team for a profanity-driven attack on Coach Raymond Domenech at halftime of France’s game against Mexico.

But Nasri was at Euro 2012, where a tirade directed at a Frenchjournalist after the Bleus’ exit from the tournament was just one of several incidents that brought back the image of the French players as undisciplined, spoiled brats. For his tirade, Nasri wassuspended three games by the French federation.

Nasri was recalled to the national team but has not played since France’s 2-0 loss to Ukraine in the European playoffs.

BEASLEY’S BUTTERFLIES. One of the veterans on hand for the opening day of the U.S. national teamcamp at Stanford University was DaMarcus Beasley, a veteran of three World Cups. He arrived after spending two weeks in Florida training with the Ft. LauderdaleStrikers after the end of the Mexican season with Puebla.

The appearance in camp was the first one of the year for Beasley, who was not allowed by Puebla to play in the April 2 matchagainst Mexico.

”I still get butterflies,” he told reporters in the Wednesday afternoon mixed zone. ”I haven’t been with the team for a while. To see all the guys’ faces, it’s good tobe back with the team and obviously it’s very important. We have a lot of work to do, and a lot of work to be done in these three weeks before the team goes to Brazil.”
