[AROUND THE COUNTRY] After being shut out for its three games, Wake Forest finally broke through and got goals from sophomore defender Tolani Ibikunle — his first career goal — and junior forward Sean Randolph to earn a 2-1 win over Clemson in the 2011 ACC opener for bothteams.
Freshman Amadou Dia‘s goal on a header goal just 24 seconds into the match might have been the antidote the Deacons needed, as Wake awoke, eventually outshooting Clemson 10-2 in the first half and 18-6 on theevening.
Goalkeeper Michael Lisch made a pair of brilliant saves in the second half as the Deacs remained unbeaten in their past 11 matches withthe Tigers – a streak which dates back to 2002.
— Buffalo remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory at Siena. The Bulls (4-0-1) got goals freshman VinnyDiVirgilio — his first collegiate goal — and Andy Tiedt. Joe Miner‘s goal for Siena broke UB’s 289-minutescoreless streak.
— Steven Miller one-timed a cross from Jimmy McLaughlin in the 89th minute to Colgatepast Vermont, 1-0, at the Smith Barney Morgan Stanley Windjammer Classic and keep the Raiders unbeaten at 3-0-1.
— Following a lightning delay that extended the halftime break by a fullhour, Penn State’s attack caught fire for three second-half goals to dispatch Saint Peter’s, 3-0. Sophomore Jordan Tyler had two goals and one assist.
— A golden goal by senior Charles Schwartz, his second goal of the game, propelled Drake to a 2-1 comeback victory over UMKC in the home opener forthe Bulldogs (2-1).
