FIFA released the first details — slim as they are — of when the sale of tickets for the 2026 World Cup will begin.

What it described as the “application period” for the “first ticket draw” will open on Sept. 10. Fans who have not already registered should do so at FIFA.com/tickets and create a FIFA ID.

The 104 games in the United States, Canada and Mexico are expected to attract 6.5 million fans (total attendance). Millions more are expected to register for what is expected to be lottery.

FIFA has not yet disclosed what ticket products will be available in each phase — how many tickets an individual can purchase for which round of the tournament, to which venues or to follow which teams.

FIFA  plans to use dynamic ticket pricing, The Athletic reported, setting prices based on demand, but how it plans to use that pricing model in conjunction with a lottery has not been explained. FIFA used dynamic ticket pricing during the Club World Cup, resulting in huge drops in ticket prices when tickets for matches went unsold. (That shouldn’t be a problem next year.)

• Hospitality tickets: The only tickets currently available for sale are hospitality tickets — access to seats, plus some level of VIP service — beginning at $1,350 per person (!) to matches not involving the three co-hosts.
