[CREIGHTON MEN] Nebraska is football country, but Bob Warming put soccer on the map in the Cornhusker State, buildingCreighton into a national powerhouse. He also made soccer an important part of the Omaha school’s campus, serving as a driving force behind the construction of the 6,000-seat Morrison Stadium.
Warming, who left Creighton for Penn State, spent 14 total years in Omaha, serving in two different stints (1990-94, 2001-09). He led the Bluejays to 190 victories, 11 NCAA Championshipappearances and to the 2002 Men’s College Cup.
He departs following a down season in 2009. For first time since 1991, the Bluejays didn’t make the NCAA Tournament. Creighton’s streak of17 straight tournament appearances was the fourth longest active streak in the nation.
The Bluejays moved from Tranquility Park to their own on-campus facility at the start of the 2003season.
“The stadium is so connected with the campus,’’ Warming said of Morrison Stadium, built ata cost of $13 million, in an interview with the Omaha World-Herald. “I don’t know if there is another place in the world where the facade of the soccer stadium has determined what the restof the buildings on campus were going to look like.’’
