Laura Zellerbach, 41, a treasurer for the Fullerton Rangers Soccer League from 2012 to 2014, was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $174,000 from the nonprofit. The LongBeach resident is accused of money laundering, forgery of records, grand theft, misappropriation of property, and embezzlement, Sgt. Kathryn Hamel said.

The Orange CountyRegister’s Scott Reid and Lou Ponsi reported that Zellerbach’s arrest comes as city officials investigate whetherRangers’ coaches and officials used the club’s nonprofit status to receive reduced rates and gain access to city fields that might otherwise not be available for camps and academies; afor-profit company set up by Rangers coaches and officials, is tied to the league.

Also, the city is investigating whether the Rangers continue to meet a requirement that at least 80 percentof the club’s players are Fullerton residents — a threshold gives them a better status for field rental fees and access.
