Manchester United defender Phil Jones on Tuesday signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2019. The 23-year-old, who moved to Old Trafford from Blackburn Rovers in2011, had one year remaining on his previous deal. He made 23 appearances for the Red Devils last season as United finished fourth in the Premier League. “Phil is a relatively young defender who isdeveloping all the time,” United coach Louis van Gaal said. “He missed some of last season due to injury but I was impressed by his professionalism and attitude during thoseperiods.”
