Precourt does Austin FC housecleaning

Austin FC became the fifth MLS team to make a coaching change in the first three months when it fired head coach Nico Estévez.

The Austin FC move was a housecleaning. It also parted ways with sporting director Rodolfo Borrell. Davy Arnaud has been appointed Interim head coach ahead of Austin FC’s final match before the World Cup break May 23 against St. Louis City.

Austin FC sits in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, five points below the playoff line with a record of 3-6-5.

Austin FC hired Estevez ahead of the 2025 season to replace Josh Wolff, its coach for its first four seasons. Borrell took charge of player personnel decisions in 2023 following the departure of Claudio Reyna in 2022. Borrell had been assistant manager under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“We believe this team can compete for a playoff position,” said Austin FC chief executive officer and majority owner Anthony Precourt, “and given our results thus far, a change is necessary to achieve our goals of qualifying for the playoffs this year and becoming a consistent winner in this league.”
