MLS will introduce at matches this weekend three initiatives whose introduction at the start of the 2024 season was delayed because of the referee lockout.

In December, MLS’s Board of Governors approved initiatives to speed up play — the off-field treatment rule and timed substitution rule. In addition, VAR decisions will now be explained and announced by the referee for fans in the stadium and viewers at home to hear.

Other initiatives, including the return to play equity protocol on head injuries and stoppage time appearing on clocks took effect at the start of the 2024 season in February.
